The young duo of Jude Bellingham and Mason Greenwood have been dropped from the England squad ahead of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers against Hungary and Andorra later this month. The two players were major absentees from the 23-man England squad unveiled by manager Gareth Southgate ahead of the aforementioned World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Bellingham, 18, has been in sensational form for Borussia Dortmund since he moved to the German Bundesliga outfit from English Championship team Birmingham City at the start of last season. His performances have propelled Borussia Dortmund into the top four places on the German Bundesliga table this season. In addition, he has been one of the star players for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League this season. Bellingham was in the 26-man England squad to the Euro 2020 tournament in the summer and he could not save the team from losing to Italy via penalties in the final.

England manager Southgate explained why he left out both Greenwood and Bellingham from his list for the upcoming World Cup 2022 qualifying games during a press conference on Thursday. According to him, the two players were rested due to the amount of games they have played for their clubs recently. The two young footballers are always in the starting XI for their respective clubs.

For Greenwood, he has scored three goals in six games on the Premier League scene this season. He was on target in each of the first three Premier League games for Manchester United this season. He opened his account on the opening weekend of the season as Manchester United thrashed Leeds United 5-1 at home. His second goal came in the 1-1 draw at the home of Southampton before he scored the winning goal in the 1-0 away win over Wolves. Greenwood has not scored in three Premier League matches.
