DENMARK: WORLD CUP 2022 QUALIFYING REVIEW

Denmark were the top seed when the draw for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the European section took place. At the end of the draw, the Danes were drawn alongside Moldova, Faroe Islands, Scotland, Austria and Israel in Group F. As at the time of the World Cup 2022 qualification draw, it was seen as a good one for Denmark and the team has backed it up with results on the pitch. Denmark are just one of few teams to record maximum points after the first three games in the qualifiers.

Apart from Denmark, Italy in Group C, the Three Lions of England in Group I and surprise package Armenia in Group J are the only teams with a perfect record in the World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Denmark began their World Cup 2022 qualifiers with an impressive 2-0 away victory over Israel. Martin Braithwaite and Jonas Wind scored for the Danes either side of thebreak. It was a fantastic start for Denmark and they took it a level higher with their second game in the qualifiers.

The Danes hit Moldova for eight to seal their position at the top of the Group F standings. Denmark scored eight goals without reply and with six different goalscorers. Their biggest result of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers came in the third game played in March againstthe Austrians in Vienna. All the first three qualifiers were played in the month of March.

Denmark made it three straight wins at the start of the qualifiers with the excellent 4-0 away win over Austria thanks to the brace from Andreas Olsen. Other players like JoakimMaehle and Pierre Hojbjerg also found the back of the net in the game. The Danes were able to open a four-point gap at the top of the table in Group F with the win over the Austrians. They will resume their qualifiers in September with the big one against Scotland at home. The Scottish team is in second place and four points off the top spot.
