Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount will miss the big Premier League clash with defending champions Manchester City due to a minor injury according to manager Thomas Tuchel. The Blues boss gave an injury update on England international Mount during his pre-match chat with reporters at the club’s Cobham training ground.
Tuchel revealed that the Manchester City games comes too soon for Mount who picked up the problem in the first half of the last league game at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
French World Cup winner N’GoloKante came on for the injured Mount at the halftime interval and the change propelled Chelsea to a big away win over Spurs in front of their home fans. Chelsea scored three second half goals with defenders Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva on the scoresheet. Kantewas responsible for the second Chelsea goal. The Blues were second best in the first half and were fortunate not too concede. In the end, a strong second half showing earned them the three points.
England player Mount had featured in every Chelsea game until the Carabao Cup third round clash with Aston Villa on Wednesday. Without Mount in their squad, Chelsea were able to progress into the fourth round of the competition thanks to the penalty shootout win at the expense of their opponents after the two teams played out a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes.
The aforementioned injury is not expected to stop Mount from being named in the England squad ahead of next month’s World Cup 2022 qualifiers. Mount has always been a part of the England squads for the World Cup 2022 qualifiers. Barring any major situation, Mount will be part of the England squad to the World Cup 2022 tournament in Qatar.
Apart from Mount, Chelsea will be without American national team player Christian Pulisic due to an ankle problem.
