The second vice-president of the Nigeria Football Federation Shehu Dikko has suggested that they are expected to meet up with Victor Moses in an attempt to convince him to return to international football. The Chelsea ace retired from Nigerian duty in mid-August citing family and career concerns but things have since not gone smoothly for the 27-year-old.

Moses was a regular under Antonio Conte last term where he was pretty much a constant in the right wing-back position but he has not enjoyed a similar run with new boss Maurizio Sarri, who has ditched the 3-4-3 formation to go with the orthodox four-man defence. As such, Moses has managed just one start across all competitions with Sarri only regarding him as a winger but Shehu believes the decision does not disregard the qualities of the former Wigan Athletic star.

Speaking to reporters, Shehu said that the country’s federation plan to revisit Moses’ decision to retire from international duty and they are hoping to convince him to return at the turn of the year, he said: “We plan to visit him very soon and have another chat with him. He is part of us, everybody knows that he is a brilliant player, he can play anywhere. He is not playing because he is a bad player, he is not playing because the tactics the team are adopting does not suit him. In the old system they were playing, Moses was indispensable, now another coach has come with another system. Hopefully by January he’ll get himself sorted, we still need him.”

Moses had already featured for the Super Eagles in three African Cup of Nations and he was part of the successful team during the 2013 edition. Unlike in the previous years, the committee has decided to keep the tournament between June and July of next year and hopefullythis can provide Nigeria with the time to reinstate Moses into their plans.

The former Wigan ace has already featured in the previous two World Cups for the African heavyweights and he has been on the scoresheet on both of the editions. Unfortunately, Nigeria have not made progress into the latter stages of the global tournament and it remains to be seen whether Moses would be around when the 2022 World Cup starts in Qatar.
